Lodz University of Technology Press is a university-wide unit, a department subordinate to Library of Lodz University of Technology. Providing services to the University, it operates on the basis of:

  • The Statute of Lodz University of Technology,
  • external and internal legal acts regulating matters concerning the functioning of the University,
  • Regulations of the Library of Lodz University of Technology and Regulations of TUL Press.

The Director of the Library of Lodz University of Technology is responsible for the operation of TUL Press. Supervision is exercised by the Vice-Rector for Science.

 

Structure of TUL Press
• Head - editor-in-chief
• A team of substantive and linguistic editors responsible for editing and proofreading of texts (2 editors – Polish philologists, 1 editor – English philologist)
• A team of technical editors and graphic designers responsible for typesetting and graphic design of publications
• Bookkeeper

The primary task of TUL Press is the preparation, publication and distribution of scientific monographs, academic textbooks, continuous publications, conference and information materials in the fields of knowledge covered by the scientific and didactic activity of the Lodz University of Technology to the academic community and external entities. 

Lodz University of Technology Press is on the list of publishing houses publishing peer-reviewed scientific monographs at level I (position: 416; 48200) announced by the Minister of Education and Science. Each monograph published at TUL Press is awarded 80 points.

TUL Press is responsible for assigning DOI numbers to publications and for the e-Journal platform of Lodz University of Technology, where electronic versions of scientific journals are uploaded. It also manages the collection of DOI (Digital Object Identifier) identifiers for the distribution of identifiers to Lodz University of Technology units in specific repository platforms and the Plagiat.pl anti-plagiarism system for the preparation of similarity reports for all publications and texts submitted by TUL employees.

 

TUL Press promotes the scientific output of the staff of Lodz University of Technology by
Realisation of the publishing process
1. Acceptance of publications and preparation of publishing calculation. 2. Organising a reviewing procedure in accordance with the standards of publishing ethics. 3. Editorial preparation, technical editing. 4. Preparation for printing, actual printing, distribution, sales.
Exploring new channels for book distribution
1. In-store and online sales. 2. Distribution of ebooks through the Ebook Point platform. 3. Creation of favourable conditions of cooperation with customers influencing the increase of sales levels – books are purchased not only by book companies and wholesalers, but also by scientific institutions, industrial companies, joint-stock companies, specialist agencies.
Promoting accessibility and openness of science
1. Placing information on publications in scientific journals and in the catalogue of publications. 2. Cooperation with the Digital Resource Creation Department of Library of Lodz University of Technology (making books available through the CYBRA Electronic Library). 3. Regular co-operation with the open Repository of TUL offering free access to electronic publications.
Promotional activities
1. Participation in industry events (Academia – Academic and Scientific Book Fair, accompanying the Warsaw Book Fair, International Book Fair in Cracow, Scientific Book Fair in Wroclaw and Poznan Book Days). 2. Organising book stands during departmental conferences. 3. Sending review copies to journals designated by the author or selected editors and participating in a number of competitions aimed at publishers. 4. Presentation of new releases and the current publishing offer on TUL Press website and Bookshop and in social media.
Activities for the socio-economic environment and cultural institutions
1. Co-edition of publications in cooperation with the Lodz Scientific Society. 2. Ongoing publishing cooperation with the Lodz Regional Chamber of Civil Engineers.
