DOI

DOI (Digital Object Identifier) is a unique alphanumeric identifier (NISO standard) created to identify a piece of intellectual property. It can be assigned to any unit of intellectual property, such as a book, article, chapter in a book, journal number, etc. It is most often used for articles in electronic journals but also for e-books and the chapters they contain.

Until now, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education has treated this identifier on a par with the ISSN or ISBN when evaluating publications. It was even enough for an author to provide the DOI number of a publication for it to be counted as part of his or her scientific output – even if it had not yet been physically published.

The identifier itself is made up of two parts: a prefix assigned to the publisher and a slash-separated suffix, given by that publisher, which refers to a specific document (specific title, volume, number and pages).

Using the search engine at www.dx.doi.org, a document to which a DOI has been assigned can be identified. By pasting the identifier string into the search box, you will be redirected to a page with the bibliographic description or full text of the specific publication. A DOI can also be assigned to articles that have been published previously, but it has been decided to give them a ‘second youth’ by putting their digital version online.

DOI for publications published by Lodz University of Technology Press

Assignment of numbers is handled by Lodz University of Technology Press – identifiers can be given to publications that are placed on platforms:

Currently, identifiers can be requested by those whose publications have been placed on the CYRENA platform. To obtain a DOI number, it is sufficient to contact TUL Press, and after verification of the digital object (e.g. the possibility of making the file available in open access in accordance with the signed publishing agreement), the DOI number will be assigned to the document.
